Hey, I’m Abena.
I help schools and educators transform learning through impactful teacher training, student mentorship, and literacy programs.
"The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character—that is the goal of true education."
— Martin Luther King Jr.
Hi, I’m Abena, a qualified English teacher with over a decade of experience teaching in both UK state schools and international schools. I am passionate about helping young people build confidence and succeed in English, and equally passionate about supporting the teachers who guide them, no matter where in the world they are.
This journey began in my own classroom. I started creating resources to support my students and the English department I lead. What began as a simple way to share ideas quickly evolved into something much greater, and that is how Good Tree was born.
At the heart of this work is the Ghanaian proverb:
"When you climb a good tree, you are given a push."
It is a powerful reminder that when you commit to a good cause rooted in purpose, community and service, support will come. That is what this consultancy is built on: the belief that when we do meaningful work in education, whether through teaching, mentoring or leadership, we never stand alone.
Today, I am proud to be both an educator and a content creator, dedicated to supporting students, particularly those preparing for the Edexcel IGCSE English Language examination, and to empowering teachers through high-quality professional development and purposeful mentoring.
Originally from London, I now live abroad with my husband and our two wonderful children. Teaching is not just my profession, it is my purpose. I believe deeply in the power of education to plant strong roots and grow lasting, meaningful change.
Welcome to Good Tree. I am so glad you are here.

Projects & Publications
The purpose of this study was to explore how curated fiction excerpts and targeted CPD for teachers could improve disadvantaged pupils’ attitudes towards reading for pleasure by increasing their exposure to diverse texts and enhancing teachers’ knowledge and confidence in recommending literature.
This blog for SSAT explores how coaching, purposeful CPD, and reflective practice can empower mentors and student teachers alike, fostering meaningful professional development and stronger, more supportive mentoring relationships in schools.
